macam-macam teori kepimpinan

Samurai style leadership

LAST month Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR) organised a five-day programme entitled “The Way of theSamurai” at UNITAR’s new city campus at Capital Square.
Facilitated by Assoc Prof Dr Ibrahim Zahari, director of the Centre for Executive Education, the customised programme was developed to cultivate leadership qualities for junior and senior managers.
It was attended by participants from Inno Biologics, a contract manufacturer that operates a cGMP (CurrentGood Manufacturing Practices) manufacturing facility for the production of biopharmaceutical API.
“The Way of the Samurai“ is designed to meet the needs of the 21st century’s current and future leaders by teaching business skills and qualities in a unique, interactive environment. These skills can be applied throughout the organisation, and participants are also empowered with personal development and self-management tools that include elements of physical and mental endurance.
By incorporating the timeless and honourable concepts of the Japanese warrior, or Samurai, in its teaching methods and principles, the programme differs from usual training workshops and provides a unique alternative for leadership development.

The five-day programme is split into three parts – two days are for Theoretical (The Samurai Way), one day isfor Apprentice-Experiential Learning (The Black Box), and the last two days are for the Endurance Test and Team Building activities.

Each part builds on previous sessions to combine a comprehensive leadership development programme. Combined, these three parts provide participants with new viewpoints, perspectives and experiences to be used not only in their corporate jobs but in their personal lives as well.
The Theoretical class emphasises the wisdom, honour and courage of the Samurai code.
Participants learntheir importance, use, relevance and potential rewards, and how to apply these concepts in winning businessbattles.
The Apprentice-Experiential Learning provides participants a better understanding of team dynamics andbehaviour in forming and maintaining high performance teams. It increases participant morale and groupidentity by sharing a fun and creative experience, together with an enhanced understanding of individualstrengths and weaknesses within a group.
Lastly, the Endurance Test and Team Building section uses adventure-learning activities to build upon previous team exercises. It pioneers the combination of the sport of white-water rafting and adventure racing together with leadership development to provide outstanding experiences that are new, fresh, and out of the box.

In this exercise participants learn to function as a group, form common goals, and make quick decisions all in a fun, safe, and exciting environment.By the end of the programme, the participants are equipped with essential managerial and leadership skills that enable more strategic, creative and innovative management styles.
The participants are also empowered to better impart their business philosophies based on a clear vision of the business world, and are better equipped to exploit all available opportunities.
